Report
Given the short notice we had a good turnout: 5 (Mark, Andy D., Ian C. Mike and Simon B.) plus two dogs (Tarber and Rosy). [Mike was allowed out despite the fact that it was his wedding anniversary: in fact Beryl very kindly gave him lift to the start of the walk to get him out of the house…
]
The weather at the start of the walk was overcast and distinctly chilly. Quite good for walking actually provided the rain held off… We started off at 6.00pm (or thereabouts)
The initial plan had been to do the walk in a clock-wise direction but Mike requested that we went the other way round so that he could drop Rosy off at his house on the way past. The first part of the walk repeated the route from the last walk of last year. This was mostly along quiet roads and, once out of the village, the dogs could be let off the leash. The northern end of the walk was quite interesting – I drive past it every day but have never really explored what lies beyond the verge! After crossing the A264 for a second time we picked up the Sussex border path and walked down to Rowfant House and through the business centre picking up a stretch of the route from another old walk to take us into Turners Hill. Mike went off to leave the dog at home and as we started to cross the fields it started trying to rain…. fortunately it never got beyond the trying stage. Mike caught us up just as we were debating the last significant right turn on the route. Having turned for home we covered the only major change in elevation on the route as we dropped down into the valley of the Medway and climbed out the other side. We returned to the village at about 8.15 (well before dark, unlike the last walk to finish here!).
Sorry, no photos – took the camera but completely forgot to use it !
